Download, installation & registration

? Can I make an installation USB or CD myself?
!

If you download Earope on one computer, and need to install it on another, you can make an installation USB or CD. Just download the installation file (choose "Save as.." when downloading) then copy the downloaded file ( "earope165.exe" or similar) to an empty USB disk or CD-rom. That's all you need to do. Now insert the diskette in the destination computer and install directly from it by running the installationfile.

? What is the mechanism behind the serial number or Hardware fingerprint?
!

Version 1.6: The key we generate for you is based upon the serial number that the Earope software generates and that you mail to us. This key only works for that particular serial number. It is of no consequence on which PC you download the software. The serial number you should send to Cope Media is the one from the PC that you want to use in the future. In Earope 1.6 the serial number is generated, based upon the hardware of your PC. You will get the same serial number on the same PC. This was not the case with Earope 1.5.

Version 1.65: From this version forward, Earope produces a Hardware fingerprint for you. This will vary from PC to PC, and the key you get from us is based upon this fingerprint and other data. It is of no consequence on which PC you download the software. The Hardware Fingerprint you should use when purchasing, is the one from the PC that you will be using Earope on.

? I entered my preliminary registration key, but the software says that it will still only work for a limited time (even after I paid for it.)
!

Version 1.6: The preliminary key supplied when you ordered allows you to start using the software immediately. Just mail the serial number to Cope Media (11 digits from the About Earope-box in the Help menu) within 14 days to get a permanent key.

Version 1.65: The preliminary name+key will always work in case you do not currently have a working registration key. If you loose the registration key or move your copy of Earope to a different PC, then you need to contact us. Please include order number and the Hardware fingerprint reported by Earope.

? I re-installed my PC and now my registration key is not accepted. What do I do?
!

If you install Earope on a different PC or change your own PC (f.ex change the hard disk), Earope will generate a new serial number. This requires a new registration key that you get from Cope Media. Simply mail the new serial number to Cope Media, with you name and order number to get your registration key. The serial number will not change even if you delete or uninstall Earope.

? I re-installed my PC and now my registration key is not accepted. What do I do?
!

The content on the CD is identical to the software you download. If you can burn CD's yourself, this is the best and cheapest way to get a backup-CD. If you should loose your copy of Earope, you can always download again.

? I have an anti-spyware program that prevents me from downloading Earope. What do I do?
!

We have tested different anti-spyware and a few of them actually detects Earope as containing malicious content, even though this is not the case. Some bytes in the compacted download seems to be similar to the bytes of some bytes in spyware that the anti-spyware tests for.

You can ignore the warning from the anti-spyware or turn it off until you have installed Earope. After installation (unpacking), the bytes are no longer there and the anti-spyware program is happy again :-)

? Earope gives me different Hardware Fingerprints on each run?
!

In this case, you will need to run Earope in Widnows' "Compatibility Mode"

Right-click the Earope .exe file or your Earope shortcut and choose Properties. In the tab "Compatibility" you then choose to run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2/3). Now you should get the same Fingerprint each time.

Using Earope

? The cash-register sound is very loud, how can I turn down the volume?
!

The volume of the default feed-back sound - as well as any other feed-back sound you choose, can be adjusted from the panel that appears when the mouse is moved to the volume-knob at the right side of the on-screen piano or fret board. In versions prior to Earope 1.6, you must use Windows volume-adjustment to turn down the Wave-sounds.

? How do I "reset" Earope completely?
!

A trick to try that can clear many problems, including MIDI errors, is deleting the file INIT.EAM prior to running Earope. Locate INIT.EAM in the Earope installation folder on you PC. Be sure that Earope is not running when you delete it. *Note: Your settings in Earope such as exercises, MIDI-setup and others will be reset.

Errors & Windows issues

? I get a Windows errormessage when I run Earope
!

If you experience any errors at start-up we would like to know. Please first check if you can reproduce the error. A trick to try that can clear your problem, is deleting the file INIT.EAM prior to running Earope. Locate INIT.EAM in the Earope installation folder on you PC. Be sure that Earope is not running when you delete it. *Note: Your settings in Earope such as exercises, MIDI-setup and other will be reset.

? When I load Earope I get the message "invalid device id".
!

You may have changed your MIDI equipment or Windows settings since last running Earope. Delete the file INIT.EAM from the Earope installation folder (Usually C:\Program files\Earope Advanced Eartraining) BEFORE running Earope again.
